A re-examination of the winds of Adélie Land, Antarctica

چکیده
It has been nearly a century since the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (hereafter, AAE) under the leadership of Sir Douglas Mawson first set foot on the Antarctic continent. The party arrived at what would become the base station of Cape Denison (67°S, 142.7°E; see Fig. 1) in January 1912. For the next two years, party members maintained a record of weather observations, the first extensive meteorological log for a station on the main body of the Antarctic ice sheets. The wind was the outstanding feature of the Adélie Land climate. Phenomenally high wind speeds were experienced throughout the course of the expeAust. Met. Mag. 55 (2006) 105-117

The purpose of this research is to analyze anemometer data to study the wind regime in Kashan and to investigate the role of different land uses in sand storms. Therefore, anemometer data obtained from synoptic station of Kashan were analyzed during a 40-year period (1966-2005) using different methods. Seasonal and annual wind roses and storm roses for different lands were created using WRPlot ...

The Adélie Land coastal region of Antarctica is one of the most prominent cyclogenesis regions in the Southern Hemisphere, and is adjacent to the continent’s most intense katabatic wind regime. However, the physical mechanisms responsible for cyclogenesis are not known. A manual analysis of cyclogenesis for the 2003–2005 period using output from the Antarctic Mesoscale Prediction System (AMPS) ...
متن کاملRadiogenic isotope fingerprint of Wilkes Land–Adélie Coast Bottom Water in the circum-Antarctic Ocean
[1] Wilkes Land – Adél ie Coast Bottom Water encompasses the bottom waters formed around the coast of East Antarctica in the area east of Prydz Bay and west of the Ross Sea (90 E–150 E). Here we show that these bottom waters have not only characteristic physical properties, but also carry a distinct radiogenic isotope signal that traces their dispersal. The Nd, Hf and Pb isotopic compositions o...
